VAMPIRES AND GAYS BELOW
[They could be anywhere, honestly. Whether Laura is an illustrious vampire hunter out on a mission or not quite as involved in her family history, in her hometown, the result is ultimately the same.
It's a nice evening. Laura's in a cafe, minding her own business, (whether that business be normal or supernatural), and a cute young woman with a small frame is just, plopping her butt down into the seat opposite her, completely uninvited.]

She isn't sure how she feels about it. But she's distracted from the problem when someone she's never seen in her life suddenly invades her peaceful dinner.]
...Can I help you?
[It's not in Laura's nature not to be polite, but she is pretty clearly confused.]

All the same, messing with Laura on a whim is what's happening for now, so she stretches lazily, gaze fixed sleepily on the woman across from her.]
Yeah. I've got some free time on my hands, and you seemed like you could use some company. What're you reading?

[No need for lying. Being difficult doesn't even occur to her -- it doesn't occur to her to be concerned, either. A vampire wouldn't just say hi, right? A vampire wouldn't look so... small and sleepy.]
I'm afraid I can't promise an interesting conversation, but I appreciate your concern.
[Did she look lonely? She must have. Oh well. No reason not to be friendly.]

[leaning forward to rest her elbows on the table and chinhands at Laura, all drowsy interest.]
A family journal, huh? See, that already sounds interesting. Are you carrying on the family business or something?

[It's not appropriate to talk about vampires to the general populace, of course. Laura's not one for deception but it's been drilled into her since she knew how to talk that this is the one thing she has to hide. It's dangerous for both herself and others.
So she's not showing Fie the book. She's just closing it gently and setting it down, with her hands folded over it politely.]
I can only hope to be as astute as my forefathers, some day. And you?

My family taught me everything I know. But that was a while back.

[How sad. Laura honestly hopes she misinterpreted that, because it's just painful to think of not having family around. Even if she doesn't see her father all that much, to be honest...]

[She seems pretty blase about it, but she seems pretty blase about everything.]
It's pretty cool that you're getting into your family's history, though.

[That's what she's been taught anyway. When your family has a history, a responsibility, it's important to respect and venerate it as much as you can.]
